Not your flower to pick

In this film the artist will guide you through the shared experience of growing up as a woman. Like flowers, women are often seen as objects of desire and wanted only when and while they are beautiful. Growing up in a world, where it feels like the most important thing is how you look, is tough. But beauty is, after all, the most ephemeral part of a most valuable whole.

Annabel Venneker (NL)
Annabel is a filmmaker from the Netherlands. In her work she enjoys experimenting with how color and texture convey emotion. She likes to take a playful approach to constructing a narrative, usually creating images and animations around a subject and seeing what kind of story forms using editing. She draws most of her inspiration out of everyday life, and in her films and drawings she often covers topics like femininity and intimacy. Annabel graduated from HKU 2D animation in 2021 with the film “Not Your Flower To Pick”.
